Chord Shapes
Major 7th Suspended 2nd
Intervals (conceptual): 1-2-5-7, often with additional colour tones. By omitting the 3rd and including the major 7th, this chord sounds both suspended and sophisticated. It is more a textural or modal sonority than a standard functional harmony and is common in film, ambient and contemporary jazz contexts where the composer wants the sweetness of a major 7th without defining the 3rd. On guitar and piano, typical voicings keep the 2nd and 7th in the upper voices, creating a gentle cluster over the root.
