Scale Notes & Info
Scale: C messiaen's mode #4
Description: Messiaen's fourth mode of limited transposition, an eight-note symmetric scale built from repeating semitone-tone-tone cells. It lacks a strong tonal centre and is used by Messiaen and later composers to create luminous, suspended sonorities; jazz musicians sometimes apply it over complex, extended chords for an other-worldly colour.
